But who are these folks? And how might we respond to their posts?
Welcome back to ThinkWell Together—where we cut through the digital noise.
With this post let’s think through a “Who is this, really?” question with an actionable tip from the Twella Toolkit, an example, and another useful resource.
But first, we’ll get our bearings.
Let’s consider four factors about the creator (and/or sponsor!): accuracy/expertise, transparency/disclosure, commercial influence, and manipulation tactics. This context is crucial.

Does creator have a monetary stake in follower count, product sales, or brand promotion?
Is there a pattern of content that prioritizes engagement or sales over factual education?
Are there signs of biased framing that favor sponsored products or services?
Why important: Financial interests can shape content subtly or overtly. Recognizing this helps viewers critically analyze motives behind messaging.
🎠Manipulation & Emotional Tactics: Use of psychological triggers to drive engagement
Does content use emotional or fear-mongering headlines?
Are oversimplified messages or “commonsense hooks” like self-evident advice or motivational phrases used to encourage clicks and shares?
Is content designed to trigger emotional reactions rather than thoughtful consideration?
Why important: These techniques can lead to impulsive decisions rather than informed choices, even when underlying info has some validity.

🎠Manipulation & Emotional Tactics: Watch for posts like "Stop doing this!" or super obvious tips ("Drink water!"). Our brains fall for simple hooks, but emotional triggers should prompt critical thinking.
